IT’S ON! THORSLUND VS LUNA WORLD TITLE SHOWDOWN SET TO LIGHT UP DENMARK.
All roads lead to Graakjaer Arena in Holstebro, Denmark on Friday September 1st when Danish pride Dina Thorslund squares off with Mexican ace Yuliahn Luna Avila in a blockbuster 'champion vs champion' showdown for the World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Organization (WBO) and the vacant Ring Magazine world women's bantamweight titles.
The 29-year-old Thorslund, sporting an immaculate win-loss record of 19-0, spiked by eight knockout victories, is in for her biggest fight yet, but remains fully determined to defend her WBO crown for the fourth time while also adding a pair of world titles on her shoulders in the main event of the big card co-promoted by Disrupt Promotions and TK Promotion.
Standing in the way of Thorslund's ambitious bid is the 29-year-old Luna, the WBC titleholder who boasts a win-loss-draw record of 25-3-1, with only four of her victories coming by way of stoppage. However, Luna has proven she can go the full distance, something that could test Thorslund's stamina throughout the scheduled 10-round battle.
“I’m feeling so great. I feel so strong, and I’m ready to go,” Thorslund said during Thursday’s official weigh-in where she hit the scales at exactly 53 kilograms.
Meanwhile, Luna, who weighed in slightly lighter at 52.8 kilograms, is unbothered of an expected partisan crowd, saying: “I like coming to another country and win. I’ve prepared hard for this fight and I love the challenge of fighting in another country.”
Also expected to impress the usually appreciative Danish crowd is fast-rising Brazilian star and Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Hebert Conceicao (4-0, 2KOs) who will tangle with Polish journeyman Robert Talarek (27-21-3, 18KOs) in an intriguing super-middleweight clash.
Top Irish super-lightweight prospect Steven Cairns (6-3, 3KOs) is determined to build up more momentum towards bigger fights as he collides with another Polish bet, Marian Wesolowski (3-7-1, 3KOs), in one of the anticipated undercards.
Undefeated Jacob Bank (10-0, 5KOs), one of five homegrown talents set to see action, is raring to prove he really has what it takes as he goes up against last-minute replacement, Montenegrin Almir Skrijelj (18-5, 9KOs), in an interesting super-middleweight encounter.
Danish lightweight stalwart Payman Akbari (7-1-2, 1KO) tangles with Italian foe Pietro Caputo (2-2, 2KOs) while compatriot Nesar Kunduzi (1-0, 1KO) lock horns with Georgian bet Davit Shervashidze (3-15-1, 3KOs) in their featherweight match.
Another hometown hope, super featherweight Mikkel Gribsholt (1-0, 1KO), eyes to get the job done against Georgian nemesis Bacho Jintcharadze (2-5, 1KO) while British super-middleweight Brook Eaton tries to make a grand women's pro debut opposite Czech rival Ester Konecna (3-22-2, 2KOs).
