THE PRIDE OF DENMARK, DINA THORSLUND BRACES FOR ‘TOUGHEST FIGHT’ VS MEXICAN CHAMP YULIAHN LUNA
DINA THORSLUND BANKING ON HOMETOWN DANISH CROWD TO PROVIDE EXTRA BOOST.
Danish superstar Dina Thorslund is bracing for what she considers to be her “toughest fight” yet as she goes up against Mexican champion Yuliahn Luna Avila in a blockbuster clash of world bantamweight champions on Friday September 1st at the Graakjaer Arena in Holstebro, Denmark.
Undefeated in 19 fights, with eight of her victories coming by way of knockout, Thorslund is eager to make a successful defence of her World Boxing Organization (WBO) world bantamweight crown for the fourth time on home soil since winning it over another Mexican counterpart, Jasseth Noriega, back in June 2021.
Thorslund also plans to make it a triple treat as she tries to wrestle the World Boxing Council (WBC) world bantamweight title from the grizzled Luna (25-3-1, 3KOs) and the vacant Ring Magazine diadem in what promises to be an explosive 10-round main bout of the big fight night co-promoted by Disrupt Promotions and TK Promotion.
Thorslund, already a two-weight world champion, is riding the crest of her emphatic eighth-round stoppage victory over Argentinian Débora Anahí López in February 2023, hoping to flash the same dominant form before another massive hometown crowd.
Thorslund said: “I’m going to have my hands full against Luna. She’s a champion in her own right, so I will really be in for the toughest fight of my career so far. I am ready to make history and become the first female boxer from Denmark to not only hold two world titles, but also to get the Ring Magazine title.’’
“I’ve been training really hard for this fight, thanks to some quality sparring sessions with Ebonie Jones and Skye Nicolson. They’ve been a big help in getting myself in the best shape possible. I believe all my sacrifices and preparations will pay off big time.”
“I’m also excited to be fighting again before my ever-supportive Danish people. I will really need every bit of their cheer and prayer to help me realise my goal of giving more honour and pride to Denmark. I really can’t wait any longer to show the world again the quality of Danish boxing.”
Brazilian Gold medalist Hebert Souza Conceicao and Irish super-lightweight Steven Cairns will also see action together with other homegrown talents such as Jacob Bank, Payman Akbari, Nesar Kunduzi, and Mikkel Gribsholt.
